Lynda and Glyn Ed Newton Scholarship

Lynda is a graduate of the University of Tennessee where she was editor of The Daily Beacon, treasurer of her sorority and selected as a Torch Bearer. She was married to Glyn Ed Newton in 1965 and is the mother of two children. She is an instructor of the Dorothy Carnegie Course and a certified Dale Carnegie instructor in Leadership, Presentation Skills, Customer Service and Executive Image. She is active in the United Methodist Church. She was president of the AN Chapter of PEO for 2013-14.

Glyn Ed was a graduate of the University of Tennessee where he was president of his social, professional fraternity. He paid his way through school by working with Southwestern Company, selling Bibles and dictionaries in the summer. He worked with Dale Carnegie Training for 44 years. He was certified in all Dale Carnegie program. He was a franchisee for over 30 years and was the past president of the International Dale Carnegie Franchisee Association. His team won the President’s Cup and instruction and production awards. Upon retirement, he was presented The Dorothy Carnegie Award by Dale Carnegie and Associates. He served on boards of several companies and organizations and was a Rotarian. Glyn Ed passed away in June of 2014.

The purpose of this scholarship is to provide a small hand-up for a woman determined to improve her quality of life and contribute to the well-being of others.

The scholarship is awarded to female students who are at least 25 years old, enrolled in 9 hours or more, are majoring in a transfer program, perform a community activity, and have at least a 2.5 GPA and verifiable financial need.
